VADODARA, March 15 — A 23-year-old law student, Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, allegedly rammed his car into multiple vehicles in Vadodara early Friday, killing a woman and injuring four others. The incident has triggered public outrage and political debate.
Chaurasia, accused of being in an inebriated state, denied being drunk and told police he lost control due to potholes while driving at 50 kmph.
However, eyewitnesses who caught him at the scene claimed he appeared intoxicated and was shouting, “another round, another round” after exiting the car.
The case has also drawn attention to Gujarat’s prohibition policy.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate questioned how liquor was so easily available in the dry state.
“What has happened to boys like Rakshit Chaurasia? What are these spoilt rich kids proud of?” she asked, calling him an “animal” for allegedly taking a life and then demanding “one more round.”
She also criticized Chaurasia’s media presence while in custody. “How is he giving interviews to TV channels and pretending to be innocent? Has this rich spoilt brat fought any freedom struggle that he is being interviewed?” she said in a separate post.
Police have launched an investigation into both the crash and the allegations regarding Chaurasia’s intoxication.
