Chandigarh, Oct 11: A stream of political leaders and senior police officials visited the residence of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar in Sector 24 on Saturday to offer condolences and express solidarity with the bereaved family.

Among those who called on the family were Congress General Secretary (Organisation) Randeep Singh Surjewala and Chandigarh Congress president HS Lucky. The two leaders conveyed their party’s support and urged a fair and transparent investigation into the officer’s death, calling the incident “deeply tragic.”

Bathinda Rural MLA Amit Rattan Kotfatta, brother of Amneet P Kumar—the officer’s wife—was also present and interacted with the media outside the residence. Reaffirming the family’s trust in the legal process, he thanked well-wishers for their support.

He alleged that the family faced pressure during the handling of the body. “My brother-in-law’s body was being shifted without the family’s consent and in our absence. Humare saath dhakka ho raha hai (Our family is being pressured),” Kotfatta said. “It’s unfortunate that an ADGP-level officer shot himself, and even after five days, we are no closer to justice.”

Earlier in the day, Chandigarh Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Sagar Preet Hooda also paid his respects. Meeting the grieving family, he assured them of all institutional support and cooperation in the ongoing investigation.

Several Haryana Cabinet ministers and senior Congress leaders also arrived at the residence through the day, underscoring the growing concern and attention the case has drawn across political and administrative circles.

The officer’s death earlier this week has triggered widespread discussion in bureaucratic and political quarters alike, with an increasing number of voices calling for accountability and justice.

As the Special Investigation Team (SIT) begins probing the circumstances surrounding the incident, the steady flow of visitors to the family’s home reflected both shared grief and a collective demand for truth.
