Panchkula, Dec 27: Panic gripped residents of Sector 6 in Panchkula on Friday after a leopard strayed into a residential house, prompting an immediate response from police and Forest Department teams.

Officials said the animal entered the house during the day, triggering fear among residents in the surrounding area. Locals rushed indoors and alerted authorities as word of the incident spread quickly.

Police personnel and forest officials rushed to the spot and launched a coordinated operation to track and safely capture the animal. The area was cordoned off as a precaution.

“Our teams are on the ground and efforts are underway to locate and tranquilise the leopard without causing harm,” a Forest Department official said. “Residents have been advised to remain indoors and cooperate with the authorities.”

The incident follows a similar leopard sighting reported a day earlier from the Morni hills area, raising concerns about increased wildlife movement near residential zones.

Officials said additional monitoring and patrolling have been put in place in vulnerable areas close to forest fringes to prevent further incidents.
