Hoshiarpur, April 3: A tragic lightning strike in the Garhshankar area of Hoshiarpur district claimed the life of a young man and left two others hospitalized on Friday afternoon. the incident occurred at a cricket ground in Bakkapur village, where a group of approximately 12 youths from nearby Rasoolpur had gathered for a match.
The victim, identified as Tarandeep, died instantly when the strike hit the field during a sudden spell of thunder at approximately 11:30 am. Local authorities confirmed that his body was moved to the mortuary of the Government Hospital in Garhshankar following the event.
The two other injured players were initially rushed to a medical facility in Nawanshahr before being transferred to a private hospital for specialized care. While their condition is now described as stable, medical staff noted that both individuals remained semi-conscious as of Friday evening.
The sudden nature of the storm has devastated the local community. Witnesses stated that the weather shifted rapidly, catching the players in the open without sufficient time to seek shelter.
“The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village and surrounding areas,” a local representative affirmed. He added that the community is mourning the loss of a vibrant youth while praying for the recovery of the two survivors.
