New Delhi/Singapore, May 31 – Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan on Saturday dismissed Pakistan’s claim of shooting down six Indian jets during the recent hostilities as “absolutely incorrect”, and said that India has already corrected tactical mistakes made during the clashes.
In an interview to Bloomberg TV from Singapore, where he is attending the Shangri-La Dialogue, Gen Chauhan acknowledged that some aircraft were lost, but emphasized the need to understand the reasons behind it.
“I think what is important is not the jet being downed but why they were being downed,” he said.
Gen Chauhan confirmed that the Indian Air Force quickly learned from the initial setbacks and resumed long-range missions within two days.
“We remedied, rectified and then implemented it again… we flew all our jets again targeting at long range,” he noted.
“Losses are a part of combat,” says IAF
Earlier, Air Marshal AK Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, had also acknowledged aircraft losses during Operation Sindoor, stating that “losses are a part of combat”, but clarified that all pilots returned safely.
The Indian military’s rebuttal comes after Islamabad claimed to have downed six IAF jets during the four-day conflict earlier this month.
Gen Chauhan’s remarks underscore India’s focus on tactical preparedness and operational recovery, rather than responding to “propaganda claims” by Pakistan.
