LUDHIANA, Nov 29 — Delhi Police have arrested Bandhu Maan Sekhon, the key conspirator in the shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma’s Canada-based restaurant “Caps Cafe” on August 7, officials said.

Sekhon (28), linked to the Goldie Dhillon gang in India and Canada, was apprehended in Ludhiana on November 25. A Chinese-made PX-3 semi-automatic pistol and eight live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

“Sekhon provided weapons, logistical support and strategic guidance to the shooters,” Delhi DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said. Police said foreign gang members had plotted to attack the restaurant three times — on July 10, August 7 and October 16 — for ransom and extortion.

Investigators added that Sekhon had previously fired shots outside the home of former Congress councilor Satwinder Singh in Juwaddi Kalan, Ludhiana, in 2019 over an old enmity. At that time, he was associated with Amandeep Singh, also known as Asa.

Sekhon had fled to Canada after several associates were arrested by Surrey police on August 23. Delhi Police tracked his return to Ludhiana, maintaining surveillance before arresting him in the Dugri area. He had reportedly arrived from Canada a few months ago.

Officials said Sekhon had entered Canada in September 2023 on an employer-sponsored visa and lived in Brampton before returning to India.
