Ludhiana, November 4 — Ludhiana district has emerged as the top performer in Punjab in lifting paddy from mandis, with both Ludhiana East and Ludhiana West circles surpassing all other districts in the state.

According to official data, Ludhiana East has recorded 108.12 per cent lifting, while Ludhiana West has achieved 105.67 per cent — the highest in Punjab so far, bringing relief to farmers across the district.

Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain told The Tribune that the administration was working “round the clock” to ensure smooth and timely lifting of grain.

“It is our priority that farmers do not suffer. I personally monitor the arrival and lifting on a daily basis,” Jain said.

District Food and Supplies Controller (East) Shefali Chopra said 10,06,652 metric tonnes of paddy had arrived in Ludhiana mandis, of which 9,83,432 metric tonnes had already been lifted by various agencies. She added that ₹2,173 crore has been credited into farmers’ accounts for the procured crop.

Though harvesting in Ludhiana had begun late and at a slower pace, officials said the process has now gained momentum, outpacing other districts in the state. The DC earlier directed that no delay in procurement would be tolerated and that farmers should not face any inconvenience from arhtiyas or government agencies.
