Ludhiana, November 13: Ludhiana Police claimed to have foiled a terror plot intended to spark unrest in Punjab by carrying out a grenade attack in a busy part of the city. Ten people have been arrested in connection with the case, officials said Thursday.

Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said the arrests followed “credible intelligence inputs” about a potential terror strike. “Acting swiftly, police registered an FIR on October 27 under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosives Act and Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Jodhewal Police Station,” Sharma stated. “Provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act have also been invoked, and Red Corner Notices have been issued against foreign-based suspects.”

The FIR names Kuldeep Singh, Shekhar Singh, and Ajay Singh — all residents of Sri Muktsar Sahib — as the key accused. Special investigation teams were constituted under the supervision of the DCP (Investigation) and DCP (City) to lead the probe.

Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects were operating under instructions from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) through overseas handlers. They were allegedly directed to execute a grenade attack in a densely populated locality to cause panic and disturb public order, Sharma noted.

Police identified the foreign-based masterminds as Ajay, Jass Behbal, and Pawandeep — all from Malaysia and originally hailing from Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. Investigators said the trio maintained regular communication with local facilitators Amrik Singh and Parminder, both of whom have a history of involvement in drug trafficking.

During the probe, police also arrested Vijay, brother of Ajay (based in Malaysia), who is currently lodged in Sri Ganganagar Jail under the NDPS Act. He was brought on a production warrant for allegedly coordinating logistics for the module from prison.

The investigation further revealed a courier network tasked with moving weapons into Punjab. The arrested couriers include Sukhjit Singh and Sukhwinder Singh from Faridkot, Karanveer Singh from Sri Ganganagar, and Sajan Kumar from Sri Muktsar Sahib.

Police said a Chinese-made hand grenade, a black kit, and a pair of gloves were recovered from the accused. “We have successfully prevented a potential large-scale tragedy,” Sharma added. “Further investigation is underway to trace the full network.”
