Ludhiana, August 24: Ludhiana-based swimmer Ojas Sund delivered an outstanding performance at the 52nd Junior National Aquatic Championship in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, securing three medals—two silvers and one bronze—during the six-day national competition.
The young swimmer opened his medal tally with a silver performance in the 50-metre freestyle event. He followed up with a bronze medal in the 50-metre backstroke before capturing another silver medal by placing second in the 100-metre freestyle.
Local sports authorities credited the achievement to years of focused preparation and strong family guidance. Madhav Sund, former national swimmer and father of Ojas, has served as his coach, preparing him for high-level national competition.
Regional sports administrators praised the young swimmer’s consistency on the national stage. Balraj Sharma, general secretary of the District Swimming Association (DSA) Ludhiana and Chief Executive Officer of the Punjab Swimming Association (PSA), stated that winning three medals at a national championship reflects the youngster’s talent, hard work, and commitment to the sport. He declared that the achievement serves as a matter of pride for the city and the state.
Association leadership maintained that the performance marks an important milestone for regional aquatic sports. Surjit Singh Sandhu, president of the PSA, and Anuj Sharma, general secretary, affirmed that Ojas has made Ludhiana and Punjab proud with his consistent performances. They maintained that the leadership remains confident of his bright future, asserting that he should use this success as motivation to work even harder since the medals are only the beginning of his journey to represent the state and country at the highest level.
