LUDHIANA, May 25— The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the bypoll to the Ludhiana West Assembly seat, with voting set for June 19 and counting of votes on June 23. The official notification will be issued on May 26.
The by-election was necessitated following the death of sitting AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi.
According to the poll schedule, the last date for filing nominations is June 2. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 3, and the deadline for withdrawal is June 5.
With the announcement of the poll dates, political activity in the constituency has surged. “There’s already a visible increase in campaign activity on social media,” said a local election observer. Party workers and leaders from all major parties have begun mobilizing support at the grassroots level.
The ruling Aam Aadmi Party has nominated Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora as its candidate. The Congress has fielded senior leader and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced Parupkar Singh Ghuman as its nominee. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has yet to declare its candidate.
With the election schedule now in place, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect across the Ludhiana West constituency.
