LUDHIANA, Aug. 24 — A 28-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a PEPSU Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) bus near the Amar Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Interstate Bus Terminal on Link Road Friday evening, police said.

The victim, identified as Ramandeep Kaur of Bhanderan village, was crossing the road around 5:30 p.m. when the bus hit her from behind, officials noted. She collapsed on the spot with fatal injuries. Locals rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police said the bus driver fled after the crash, abandoning the vehicle at the site. A team from Division No. 5 police station later seized the bus and registered a case against the driver.

Ramandeep’s brother, Lakhbir Singh, said she worked at an IELTS centre and was returning home from work when the accident occurred. “Her death was caused by the driver’s reckless driving. We demand justice,” he stated.

Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Om Prakash confirmed that the accused driver, identified as Nazam Singh of Mansa, has been booked under Sections 106, 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. “A hunt is on for his arrest,” he added.
