Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, March 6 – A 19-year-old man allegedly attacked a 36-year-old woman with a knife multiple times after she resisted his attempt to rape her in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, police said Wednesday.
The accused, Abhishek Navpute, had been stalking the woman for some time, despite her rejecting his advances, an official said. On Sunday, while she was working in a field in the Ghardon area, he allegedly tried to strangle and assault her. When she fought back, he slashed her repeatedly with a knife until she collapsed.
“The woman suffered around 15 wounds. Believing she was dead, the accused fled,” the official added.
The victim was discovered by her mother-in-law, who rushed her to a hospital. She regained consciousness on Monday night and informed the police about the attack.
Navpute was tracked down and taken into custody. Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
