Faridkot, Aug 8— Nearly seven months after pro-Khalistani graffiti, slogans, and flags appeared on the walls of Nehru Stadium ahead of Republic Day celebrations, police have formally booked Resham Singh for promoting secessionist propaganda.

Singh, currently lodged in Ropar jail, was brought to Faridkot on a production warrant and presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court. He has now been named as an accused in the FIR registered on January 23, 2025, just days before Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was scheduled to hoist the National Flag at the venue.

The FIR includes charges related to promoting separatist ideology and attempting to incite secessionism. Police sources said Singh is the first individual to be formally linked to the graffiti incident, which had sparked a security review in the district at the time.

Officials had then launched an investigation after slogans and flags supporting Khalistan were found on the stadium walls, triggering concerns over a possible attempt to disrupt the Republic Day event.

Further investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out more arrests in connection with the incident.
