Lucknow, 1 January 2025: In a chilling start to the new year, Lucknow Police arrested a 24-year-old man, Arshad, on Wednesday for the brutal murder of his mother and four sisters, allegedly carried out with his father’s assistance. The killings, which shocked the region, occurred in a city hotel, leaving the community in disbelief.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central Raveena Tyagi, authorities were notified by hotel staff who found five bodies in a room at Hotel Sharanjeet. Upon investigation, Arshad confessed to the murders, detailing how he slit the throats and severed the wrist nerves of his mother and sisters.
The victims have been identified as Alia (9), Alshia (19), Aksa (16), Rahmeen (18), and their mother, Asma. Police believe the crime stemmed from a family dispute involving neighbors. Arshad told investigators that the family was initially taken to Ajmer before being brought to Lucknow the day before the murders.
“The accused has confessed to killing his mother first and then attacking his sisters while they were asleep,” DCP Tyagi stated. Arshad also implicated his father in the crime, but the extent of the elder man’s involvement remains under investigation. Tyagi mentioned that inquiries were being conducted in Agra to probe the father’s role.
The gruesome crime came to light when hotel staff alerted authorities after discovering the bodies. Forensic teams sealed the crime scene and collected evidence, while senior police officials oversaw the investigation. The victims’ bodies were sent for post-mortem exams to confirm the cause of death and further understand the circumstances surrounding the killings.
“The exact details of the motive and the investigation will unfold after further examination and post-mortem results,” Tyagi added. The authorities are now focusing on the role of the father and any other contributing factors in this horrific incident.
