ZIRAKPUR, May 12: A 20-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in Zirakpur for allegedly impersonating an Indian Air Force officer by wearing an air force uniform he claimed to have found in a courier box.

The accused, identified as Sukhpreet Singh, a resident of Ashiana Complex in Zirakpur, was taken into custody after he was spotted roaming the area dressed in the uniform.

“He was moving around town in full air force attire, which raised suspicion. Our team apprehended him for questioning,” said Station House Officer (SHO) Gagandeep Singh.

During the initial interrogation, Sukhpreet told police he had discovered the uniform in a courier package lying by the roadside and decided to wear it.

Police traced the source of the uniform and confirmed it had been stitched for an actual Air Force official. “We verified the tailor who prepared the uniform and confirmed it was intended for delivery to a serving officer,” SHO Singh said.

Authorities have registered a case against Sukhpreet under Section 204 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to impersonating a public servant. An additional case under Section 305 of the BNS, relating to theft, has also been filed.

Further investigation revealed that the accused is unemployed and already facing two theft-related cases.

“He is not new to police records,” the SHO noted. “The impersonation and prior theft allegations indicate a pattern of unlawful behavior.”

Sukhpreet remains in custody as police continue their probe into how he obtained the uniform and whether any other individuals were involved.
