Kurukshetra, March 22 — A man sustained bullet injuries and another was hurt in stone pelting during a religious event (mahayagya) at Keshav Park in Kurukshetra, police said.

The firing incident occurred when a gunman associated with the mahayagya organiser allegedly shot Ashish Tiwari, who had come to attend the event. Tiwari mentioned that the gunman opened fire after he and other Brahmin community members objected to the quality of food being served.

In a separate incident, Prince Shukla, a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, was injured when unidentified persons pelted stones at him. Around 20 others reportedly sustained minor injuries.

Following the violence, community members staged demonstrations outside Keshav Park. The protest was later pacified by Kurukshetra police, who confirmed that both Tiwari and Shukla were admitted to a hospital and are out of danger.

“A heavy police force has been deployed to maintain law and order,” a police spokesperson mentioned.

Mahayagya organiser Acharya Swami Subh alleged that miscreants opened fire to malign the event’s organisers. “We demand a thorough probe into the matter,” he stated.
