Phillaur (Jalandhar), April 3 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced that the state government is equipping Punjab Police with modern infrastructure to enhance its crime-fighting capabilities.
Flagging off 139 new vehicles for police stations, Mann said the move ensures that all 454 police stations receive upgraded transport. “Earlier, new vehicles were given to top officers, but now, SHOs—who are directly connected with people—are getting them,” he said.
Mann stressed that as a border state, Punjab faces persistent threats, but Punjab Police has thwarted attempts to disturb peace. He emphasized the need for modern investigative tools, stating, “The police force must be updated with advancements in science and technology to meet present-day challenges.”
Addressing the drug crisis, Mann said 70% of smuggled drugs enter Punjab from Pakistan via drones. “We have collaborated with the BSF to deploy anti-drone technology, and their report confirms a decline in cross-border drug consignments,” he said.
To strengthen law enforcement, Mann announced an annual recruitment drive of 1,800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors. “With 2.5 lakh aspirants applying each year, this initiative is channelizing youth energy positively,” he said.
Reiterating his government’s crackdown on drug cartels, Mann said major suppliers have been jailed, and their properties confiscated. “For the first time, illegally acquired assets of drug smugglers are being seized to serve as a deterrent,” he said.
Highlighting employment efforts, Mann stated that nearly 55,000 government jobs have been given purely on merit in the last three years. He also reaffirmed his zero-tolerance stance on corruption, warning, “No corrupt officer will be spared.”
Mann also introduced a mentorship program where senior IAS and IPS officers will guide students in government schools. “This initiative will inspire students to aim high and transform their lives,” he said.
