Mohali, July 7: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal will inaugurate a 15 million gallons per day (MGD) sewage treatment plant (STP) in Sector 83, Mohali, on Monday. The high-capacity facility is expected to play a key role in the region’s urban sanitation and environmental management systems.
On Sunday, Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian visited the site to assess the final preparations. He was briefed on the plant’s progress and technical specifications by ACA GMADA Amrinder Singh Malhi, Superintending Engineer (Horticulture Wing) Gurjeet Singh, and Executive Engineer Himanshu.
After the inspection, Mundian said the project reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable urban development. “This plant is a step toward improving the quality of life in Mohali. It will help us manage urban waste more efficiently while protecting our water resources,” he said.
Officials involved in the project said the state-of-the-art plant is designed to enhance sewage treatment capacity, reduce pollution, and support the circular use of treated water. The facility aligns with Punjab’s broader green agenda and efforts to ensure cleaner urban environments.
With its modern infrastructure and eco-friendly design, the plant is expected to serve as a model for sustainable waste management in the state.
