Jalandhar, July 14 – Celebrated marathon runner Fauja Singh died in a road accident in Punjab’s Jalandhar district on Monday. He was 114.
Singh was hit by an unidentified vehicle around 3:30 pm while crossing the road in his native Beas village, police said. He was declared dead at the scene.
Known globally for his extraordinary endurance and late-blooming athletic career, Fauja Singh had inspired generations of runners and fitness enthusiasts. Often called the “Turbaned Tornado,” he became an international icon after taking up competitive running in his 80s and completing multiple marathons around the world.
