MUMBAI, Dec 14— The iconic Wankhede Stadium witnessed a rare convergence of sporting greatness on Sunday as football legend Lionel Messi and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar came together, adding another memorable chapter to the venue’s storied history.
Messi, on the third leg of his four-city GOAT India tour, spent about an hour at the stadium, interacting with young footballers and sharing the stage with Tendulkar and Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri. The event also drew several personalities from the entertainment industry.
The atmosphere inside the packed stadium was electric, with chants of “Messi… Messi” echoing throughout the programme as fans celebrated the presence of the Argentine great.
During the event, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the launch of ‘Project Mahadeva’, a state initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing young football talent across Maharashtra.
