MI vs KKR Match Highlights: Mumbai Indians have finally opened their account of victory in IPL 2025. In the match played at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, Mumbai defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 8 wickets. After two consecutive defeats, this victory brought relief to Mumbai. KKR’s team, batting first, collapsed for just 116 runs, which Mumbai achieved in just 12.5 overs. Debutant Ashwani Kumar and batsman Ryan Rickelton were the heroes of this victory.
Mumbai’s first win
After losing to Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the beginning of the season, Mumbai Indians got their first win on their home ground. KKR had set a target of 117 runs, which Mumbai chased easily. The innings was started by Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. Rohit tried to give a quick start, but his lack of form was clearly visible. He returned to the pavilion after scoring just 13 runs. Returning Will Jacks also could not do much by scoring 16 runs. But Rickelton played an unbeaten innings of 61 runs and took the team to the threshold of victory.
MI vs KKR: Ashwani Kumar and Surya’s brilliance
Debutant Ashwani Kumar surprised everyone in the first bowling. In his very first IPL match, this young fast bowler took 4 wickets for 24 runs in 3 overs, including the wicket of KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane. Due to his lethal bowling, KKR’s innings was reduced to 116 runs in 16.2 overs. Deepak Chahar also supported him well by taking 2 important wickets.
In the reply innings, Suryakumar Yadav made the match one-sided by scoring 27 runs in just 9 balls. In this short innings, Surya hit 3 fours and 2 sixes. His explosive innings gave Mumbai victory with 43 balls to spare.
KKR’s failure
On the other hand, KKR’s batting was a complete flop. Captain Ajinkya Rahane later admitted that it was a collective failure of his team. They could never recover after losing four wickets in the powerplay. Big names like Sunil Narine and Andre Russell also failed to show any magic this time.
