New Delhi, Dec. 9, 2025 — Microsoft on Tuesday announced its largest-ever investment in Asia, pledging nearly Rs 1.5 lakh crore (US$17.5 billion) in India, primarily to boost the country’s artificial intelligence capabilities.
The announcement came after Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. Nadella said the investment will support India’s AI ambitions by building infrastructure, developing skills, and enhancing sovereign capabilities.
“Thank you, PM @narendramodi ji, for an inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity,” Nadella said in a post on X. “Microsoft is committing US$17.5B—our largest investment ever in Asia—to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India’s AI-first future.”
PM Modi responded, “Had a very productive discussion with Mr. Satya Nadella. Happy to see India being the place where Microsoft will make its largest-ever investment in Asia. The youth of India will harness this opportunity to innovate and leverage the power of AI for a better planet.”
