KATHMANDU, Nepal, May 14— A mild earthquake shook parts of Nepal on Wednesday evening, registering a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter Scale, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The tremor occurred at 5:56 p.m. IST and was centered at a depth of 10 kilometers, the NCS reported. The seismic event was recorded at coordinates 27.82°N latitude and 87.02°E longitude.
“There have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage,” said an NCS official, speaking shortly after the event. “We are monitoring the situation and awaiting further updates from local authorities.”
The epicenter of the earthquake lay within Nepal’s eastern region, though specific locations affected were not immediately disclosed.
Seismologists have noted that while the quake was relatively minor, its shallow depth might have allowed it to be felt in nearby populated areas.
Authorities continue to assess the situation, and further information is expected as on-ground reports come in.
