BATHINDA, MAY 9: In a sharp escalation of cross-border hostilities, Pakistani missiles targeted Bathinda late Thursday night, prompting immediate action from Indian armed forces. Advanced air defense systems successfully intercepted the missiles, averting casualties and significant damage.
Debris from the intercepted projectiles was recovered from multiple locations in the district, including Tungwali, Gehri Baghi, and Bir Talab villages. While most of the missiles were neutralized mid-air, one impacted a house in the fields of Tungwali village, damaging a shed and shattering window panes.
Residents across Bathinda reported hearing a series of loud blasts around midnight. “The explosions were strong enough to shake the windows, but thankfully no one was hurt,” said Baljit Singh, a local resident.
Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Ahmad Parray confirmed the incident and said, “The Indian Army’s systems intercepted all incoming threats. One missile, however, caused minor damage in Tungwali.” He also noted that 4–5 suspected drone attacks were reported in the area during the night, all of which were neutralized.
Security forces, in coordination with the Punjab administration, have launched a forensic investigation at the sites. The district administration has urged people to stay indoors and avoid approaching any unfamiliar or suspicious objects. “People should maintain a distance of at least 100 metres from any unidentified debris. A joint team from the armed forces and civil administration is currently surveying the affected areas,” Parray said.
Authorities have assured the public that the situation is under control and further updates will be provided by the armed forces.
