MOHALI, May 14: The decomposed body of a 36-year-old man who had been missing for four days was found in a forested area near the sports stadium along Airport Road in Sector 78 on Wednesday, police said.
The victim was identified as Suresh Pal, a resident of Mauli Baidwan village, who made a living by supplying groceries to shops across Mohali. Police said initial findings suggest Pal was murdered and his body dumped in the wooded area.
“He had been missing since May 11. His family had filed a missing report two days later,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (City-2) Harsimran Singh Bal, who visited the spot along with Sohana SHO Simran Singh shortly after the recovery.
Pal’s body was taken to the civil hospital mortuary in Phase 6, and a forensic team was called to collect evidence from the scene.
Family members, who had been searching for Suresh since Sunday, made the discovery themselves. According to them, a pair of trousers hanging from a tree caught their attention. When they followed the trail deeper into the forest, they stumbled upon a decomposed body—later identified as Pal’s.
“My brother left home without informing anyone. We had no clue where he went,” said Nirmal Kumar, who had filed the missing report at the Sohana police station on May 13.
DSP Bal said the investigation is ongoing and confirmed that foul play is suspected. “We are treating this as a case of murder. The investigation is in full swing and the culprits will be arrested soon,” he said.
The motive behind the suspected murder remains unclear, and police said they are examining Pal’s call records and last known contacts to trace possible leads.
