SAHIBZADA AJIT SINGH NAGAR, July 4: The ongoing strike by sanitation workers of the Mohali Municipal Corporation came to an end on Thursday following the intervention of Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, who assured the protesting employees that all their demands would be met and that such a situation would not arise again.

Addressing the sanitation workers outside the Municipal Corporation office, MLA Kulwant Singh described the strike as a family matter. “Just like disagreements occur within a family, this too was a temporary difference. The Municipal Corporation is like my family, and I have always prioritized resolving the issues of every employee, regardless of their position,” he said.

The sanitation workers, who had been protesting for the past several days over alleged misconduct by officials and long-standing grievances, withdrew their strike following Singh’s assurances. He promised that their concerns would be addressed proactively, and said the administration would now take preventive steps to ensure no such agitation occurs in the future.

“I have been living among the people of Mohali since 1995. I understand their problems and will continue to stand with them,” the MLA said, drawing parallels between workers’ demands and a child’s insistence in a family. “Just as young members of a family insist to have their concerns addressed, it is also the government’s duty to respond to people’s problems in time.”

Singh added that he has consistently raised the issues of poor and working-class people in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and would continue to be their voice.

Thanking the sanitation workers for ending their strike promptly upon his request, Singh said, “I am especially grateful to all the striking employees who respected my appeal and ended the protest immediately.”

Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh, Councilors Sarabjit Singh and Bindra, former councilor Gurmukh Singh Sohal, and Pawan Kumar were also present at the occasion.
