New Delhi, 27 February — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday described the recently concluded Maha Kumbh as a historic moment reflecting India’s growing national consciousness and confidence.
In a message marking the end of the 45-day festival, Modi said the event, which drew over 66 crore people—twice the population of the United States—demonstrated India’s unity and global stature.
“The Maha Kumbh was not just a religious gathering but a sign of a nation awakening, shedding its colonial past, and embracing a new era,” Modi said, calling it the “Maha Kumbh of unity.”
Praise for Yogi Signals His Rising Influence
Acknowledging the efforts behind the large-scale organization, Modi praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for successfully managing the massive influx of devotees in Prayagraj. His recognition of Yogi’s leadership underscores the latter’s growing prominence in saffron politics.
The Prime Minister also said the participation of people from all walks of life—across caste, age, faith, and ideology—proved that India was moving forward with confidence toward Viksit Bharat.
“Maha Kumbh marks the turn of an era. Such an event has not been seen in decades, and it will shape our nation for centuries,” Modi stated, announcing plans to visit Somnath, the first of the 12 Jyotirlingas, to pray for national progress.
Global Attention and Youth Participation
Modi noted that the event’s seamless coordination, despite the lack of scheduled arrivals or departures, could become a subject of study for management professionals.
He also emphasized the strong presence of youth at the festival, calling it a reassuring sign that young Indians are embracing their cultural and national heritage.
“What happened at Prayagraj has never happened in decades before. It signals the dawn of a new era, one that will define India’s future,” he said.
Modi likened the Maha Kumbh to the divine vision Lord Krishna showed to Mother Yashoda, saying it revealed India’s growing strength and unity to the world.
Taking aim at previous administrations, Modi said India could have emerged as a major power earlier had its inherent strengths been recognized post-independence.
“We failed to do so then, but I am glad that today, the same strength is uniting us toward the goal of Viksit Bharat,” he remarked.
