Mohali, September 17: Two real estate developers have been booked by the Sohana police for allegedly duping investors of ₹2.18 crore in a stalled housing project in Sector 113, Landran.
The case was registered against Pradeep Kumar and Amarjeet Singh, owners of Geetu Construction Pvt Ltd, after multiple complaints from homebuyers who claimed the developers collected large sums as booking amounts but failed to deliver possession.
Construction of the project began in 2023 but has since come to a standstill, complainants told police.
Amrik Singh, a resident of Police Colony, Phase 8, said he booked two 230-square-yard flats in April 2023, one in his wife’s name, for ₹41 lakh. “I paid ₹27 lakh in cash and ₹14 lakh through online transfer, but even after two years, possession has not been handed over,” he alleged.
Another complainant, Amar Singh, said he booked a flat in April 2023 and initially paid ₹1 lakh. Over time, he deposited ₹14.75 lakh, with an agreement promising possession by June 30, 2024. Later, he said, the company sought more money, eventually taking ₹58.80 lakh from him. The firm also signed an “assured return agreement” promising him 1% monthly returns, which were never paid.
Prashant Dutt, a Pathankot resident, also alleged that he booked a flat in the project and paid ₹18 lakh but neither received the property nor a refund.
According to police, the developers collected a total of ₹2.18 crore from several buyers under the pretext of flat bookings and investments. A case has been registered against the accused under sections of cheating and fraud.
