Mohali, Jan 11: Mohali is undergoing its most significant power infrastructure overhaul since its founding, with the Punjab government launching a ₹708-crore plan to support the city’s rapid industrial and IT expansion.
The massive project covers everything from high-capacity grid substations to last-mile distribution. Power Minister Sanjeev Arora stated that the initiative is vital as the city’s electricity demand is surging by 20% annually. The goal is to provide uninterrupted, high-quality power to IT City, Aerocity, and surrounding industrial sectors.
“Power reliability is the backbone of any modern city. This upgrade is about ensuring that Mohali never slows down due to energy constraints,” Arora said.
Key developments include a new 220 kV substation in Sector 101 and several 66 kV substations planned for Aerocity and Ecocity. To ensure the network can handle future growth, the government is also upgrading 1,032 existing transformers and installing 746 new ones to stabilize voltage and improve safety for residents and businesses alike.
