MOHALI, Dec. 5 — The long-delayed Greenfield project is expected to open to the public within a week after landowners on Tuesday ended their protest at the Banjeri village toll plaza, officials said.
Mohali deputy commissioner Komal Mittal said the sit-in had been lifted, allowing final checks to begin. “The National Highways authorities are now giving final touches to the project, and the road will be opened for the public in a week,” she said.
The protest, led by landowners and farmer unions, had blocked the road’s scheduled December 1 opening. They demanded an entry and exit road near the toll plaza — a request the National Highways Authority of India said was not feasible, leading to repeated delays.
Duty magistrates held several rounds of talks over the past week, but the breakthrough came only on Tuesday. Mittal said officials were still examining limited alternatives. “The NHAI is doing surveys and working out the feasibility of entry and exit points, although the entire slip road is not possible,” she said.
With the agitation lifted, officials said the corridor would be opened as soon as mandatory inspections are completed.
