Fazilka, July 14: The Arniwala Nagar Panchayat has successfully established its new leadership council following a unanimous vote that positioned Aam Aadmi Party councillor Monu Kukkar as the president of the civic body. The election took place in the Jalalabad constituency under the Fazilka district administration on Tuesday, filling the presidential seat designated under the women’s reservation quota.
The new municipal administration will operate with a expanded leadership structure as Aam Aadmi Party councillors Shiv Kumar Bhalla and Kulwant Kaur were officially chosen to step into the two available vice-presidential roles. The internal vote solidifies the party’s majority control over the council, which was established after the organization captured six of the eleven open seats during the general civic elections. The opposition footprint in the local body consists of four seats held by the Shiromani Akali Dal and a single seat held by the Congress.
“The first major project would be the reconstruction of all roads in the Arniwala sub-tehsil at an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore,” Jalalabad MLA Jagdeep Goldy Kamboj stated during the electoral proceedings. The legislator affirmed that the local transport network required immediate restoration after being impacted by previous underground sewerage pipeline work.
The state government plans to support the new local council with additional development resources, including a separate two point five crore rupee fund designed to overhaul the degraded village pond infrastructure. The representative declared that development works would proceed rapidly under the new team, while indicating that similar leadership elections for the neighboring Jalalabad Municipal Council are expected to be conducted within the next few days.
