AMRITSAR, July 29 — Gurvinder Singh, an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Punjab Police and brother-in-law of acting Akal Takht Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, died in a road accident late Monday evening near Gohlwarh village on the Tarn Taran road, officials confirmed.
Singh was returning to Amritsar from his native village, Khara, in Tarn Taran district when the fatal incident took place. According to eyewitness accounts, he was riding his motorcycle at a low speed when two stray cows suddenly darted across the road. One of the animals struck his bike, throwing him to the ground and inflicting severe head injuries.
“He was rushed to a nearby private hospital in critical condition but could not survive,” said a police officer familiar with the case. Medical personnel confirmed that the injury to the rear of his head proved fatal.
Gurvinder Singh’s death has drawn condolences from religious and community leaders. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami mourned the sudden passing and offered sympathy to the family. “This is an irreparable loss,” Dhami said. “I extend heartfelt condolences to Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and the grieving family.”
A case under appropriate legal provisions has been registered, and authorities are assessing road safety measures in the area amid growing concern over stray cattle incidents.
