New Delhi/Chandigarh, Jan 13: AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Tuesday welcomed the Union Government’s decision to roll back the 10-minute delivery mandate, describing the move as a vital victory for the dignity and safety of gig workers. The statement follows the government’s successful push to have major quick-commerce platforms remove aggressive time-bound branding from their services.

“Satyamev Jayate. Together, we have won,” Chadha said in an official statement.

He expressed gratitude to the Central Government for what he termed a “timely, decisive and compassionate intervention” in removing the 10-minute delivery branding, which he argued created a dangerous environment for workers and the public alike.

The lawmaker, who recently flagged the issue in Parliament, noted that the psychological and physical pressure on delivery partners was unsustainable.

He mentioned that when a timer runs on a customer’s screen and a deadline is printed on a rider’s gear, the resulting pressure is “real, constant, and dangerous.”

During his parliamentary address last week, Chadha noted that gig workers were being pushed to a breaking point, navigating extreme heat and rain to fulfill unrealistic promises.

He directly said that these workers deserve social security, protection, and fair pay rather than being forced to risk their lives for speed.

The policy shift coincides with the implementation of the Code on Social Security, 2020, which became effective on Nov. 21, 2025.

This legislation provides a formal framework for the welfare of platform workers, including life cover and accident insurance.

Chadha noted that he has spoken to hundreds of delivery partners who described being overworked and underpaid while risking their lives.
