London, November 2 — At least nine people sustained life-threatening injuries after multiple stabbings on a London-bound train near Cambridge on Saturday evening, prompting a major police response and the arrest of two suspects.
The incident occurred on the 6:25 pm service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross, forcing the train to make an emergency stop at Huntingdon, where armed officers boarded and detained two men. Eyewitnesses said one suspect, allegedly armed with a large knife, was tasered by police.
British Transport Police confirmed that counterterrorism officers are assisting in the investigation “to establish the full circumstances and motivation” of the attack.
“We’re conducting urgent enquiries to establish what has happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further,” said Chief Superintendent Chris Casey.
The East of England Ambulance Service deployed multiple ambulances, critical care teams, and three air ambulances to the scene.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “deeply concerning” and praised emergency responders for their swift action.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation as investigations continue.
