Mohali, Oct 23: The ‘Jagriti Yatra’, a grand nagar kirtan commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur, entered Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district on Wednesday as part of its nationwide journey celebrating the Guru’s legacy of faith and sacrifice.
Organised by Takht Patna Sahib in collaboration with the Bihar government, the yatra aims to spread Guru Teg Bahadur’s message of unity, religious tolerance, and courage. It also highlights the historical bond between Patna Sahib—the Guru’s birthplace—and Punjab, where he laid down his life for the protection of religious freedom.
The procession was received at the Punjab border by Malvinder Singh Benipal, convenor of the nagar kirtan, along with several Sikh leaders and political representatives. Thousands of devotees gathered along the route to offer prayers and shower petals as the yatra entered the state after a ceremonial halt in Kurukshetra.
“The overwhelming devotion we witnessed across states reflects how deeply the Guru’s message continues to inspire the nation,” Benipal said. The day’s events included Gurbani recitations, chants of ‘Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal’, and traditional Gatka performances.
Flagged off on September 17 from Takht Patna Sahib by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the Jagriti Yatra has so far covered Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana. In Punjab, the procession will make stops at key religious and historical sites including Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Khanna, Ludhiana, Sultanpur Lodhi, Jalandhar, Kartarpur, and Nawanshahr before concluding at Anandpur Sahib on October 27.
