New Delhi, 9 February 2025: Descendants of legendary Sikh general Hari Singh Nalwa unveiled a dedicated genealogy page on Saturday, aiming to preserve their ancestor’s legacy and strengthen family ties. The launch took place at the New Delhi residence of Adarsh Chopra, the eldest member of the Nalwa clan.

Part of the website www.harisinghnalwa.com, the genealogy page honors the achievements of Hari Singh Nalwa and serves as a resource for younger family members.

“This initiative allows the new generation to learn about their heritage and connect with their family tree,” the website states.

Hari Singh earned the title ‘Nalwa’ after Maharaja Ranjit Singh, witnessing him slay a tiger that had attacked him, exclaimed, “Wah mere Raja Nal, Wah!” Though Hari Singh never used the name himself, it became a lasting symbol of his courage.

He is remembered for reclaiming vast territories once annexed by Ahmed Shah Abdali’s Afghan empire—lands that now form part of present-day Pakistan.

The genealogy project marks a significant step by recognizing both male and female descendants for the first time.

Hari Singh had four sons and two daughters, and his concern for his youngest, unmarried daughter was among his last thoughts after being wounded in the Battle of Jamrud (1837).

“I take pride in being the eldest Nalwa,” said Adarsh Chopra. “Growing up, I was surrounded by the rich stories shared by my parents, aunts, and uncles. We were a large family, and I had many cousins. This initiative keeps those beautiful stories alive for future generations.”
