Chandigarh, January 6 — Punjab Police on Tuesday said nearly 20 kg of heroin was recovered during a joint operation by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and the Border Security Force (BSF), leading to the apprehension of four accused, including an operative suspected to be managing the supply chain.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said preliminary findings suggest that the key accused was in contact with handlers based across the border and was coordinating the movement and distribution of drug consignments in the region.
“An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act, and the investigation is underway to identify cross-border handlers, trace supply routes, and dismantle the entire network,” the DGP said.
Officials said the recovery was made as part of intensified surveillance along the international border aimed at curbing narcotics smuggling. The seized contraband has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
The DGP said efforts were being made to identify all individuals linked to the racket. “We are examining the financial trail and communication links to establish the full extent of the network,” he added.
Police said further arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.
