CHANDIGARH, June 29 — Punjabi film star Neeru Bajwa appears to have stepped away from Sardaar Ji 3, despite being cast in a lead role, as controversy swirls around the film’s release and casting choices.
The actress sparked speculation earlier this week with a cryptic Instagram post:
“Sometimes it’s better to lose and do the right thing, than to win and do the wrong thing. Time to go Home ❤️.”
Though she didn’t mention the film directly, the timing and tone of the post—just days ahead of the movie’s overseas release—has raised eyebrows across fan communities and within the entertainment industry.
Adding to the speculation, Bajwa’s Instagram feed is now devoid of any promotional content related to Sardaar Ji 3. While she continues to follow her longtime co-star Diljit Dosanjh, she has notably refrained from following Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, who also stars in the film.
The move comes amid a social media uproar over Aamir’s casting, which many critics have deemed inappropriate given the current strain in India-Pakistan relations. Although the film’s makers and Diljit Dosanjh have defended the casting by stating it was finalized before diplomatic tensions escalated, public pressure has mounted. Online campaigns have demanded a boycott of the film, and some voices have even called for Dosanjh to be banned or stripped of Indian citizenship.
While the film was released overseas, it has not received a theatrical release in India, likely due to the controversy.
Interestingly, Bajwa’s most recent post promotes not Sardaar Ji 3, but her upcoming Bollywood project Son of Sardaar 2 with Ajay Devgn, further signaling a pivot away from the current release.
Directed by Amar Hundal, Sardaar Ji 3 marks the third instalment in the successful franchise. But what was meant to be a celebrated return has now become entangled in geopolitics, industry silence, and fractured loyalties—both on and off screen.
