LUDHIANA, June 14 — A domestic help couple from Nepal, hired just a month ago, allegedly burgled the home of an architect in Sukhmani Enclave, Barewal Road, along with two accomplices, police said. The suspects stole jewellery, cash, and a licensed firearm while the family was away.

According to the complaint lodged by Manish Kapoor, the burglary took place sometime between June 7 and June 12, when the house was locked. Kapoor, an architect, had travelled to China on June 7, while his wife and children were visiting her parental home. The theft came to light upon his return on Wednesday.

Sarabha Nagar police have booked four individuals: the domestic help couple Jai Singh Nath and Laxmi Nath, their associate Naveen, and Ramesh — the man who introduced them to the Kapoor family. Ramesh, also a native of Nepal, had previously arranged both domestic and office help for the household.

Inspector Madhu Bala, Station House Officer (SHO) at Sarabha Nagar police station, said the couple had been allowed to stay in a nearby house provided by the Kapoors. “When the family was away, they entered from the back of the house and carried out the theft. There were no CCTV cameras at the rear, which gave them a clear passage,” she said.

Police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are in the process of ascertaining the total value of the stolen goods. “Raids are underway to trace and apprehend the accused,” Bala added.
