CHANDIGARH, Dec. 10 — The National Gatka Association of India will host a three-day National Gatka Refresher Course in Chandigarh beginning December 12, aiming to raise officiating standards and create a nationally certified corps of referees and judges.
The programme, to be held in Sector 53, marks NGAI’s third national refresher course and is part of a broader push to strengthen the technical backbone of the sport. NGAI president Harjeet Singh Grewal said the initiative is designed to ensure uniform rule implementation and prepare officials for national and global competitions.

“This refresher course is a cornerstone of our mission to professionalize officiating in the Gatka game,” Grewal said. “We are committed to creating a national standard of excellence that our officials can carry onto the global stage.”
The course will include around 20 hours of theory and on-ground practical sessions. A written examination will determine grading and certification, and top performers will receive smart identity cards at the closing ceremony. Course incharge Sukhchain Singh Kalsani and NGAI general secretary Harjinder Kumar said the structure is meant to sharpen technical judgement and enhance decision-making under pressure.
Grewal said the certification would serve as a “license to officiate” at future national and international championships and support careers in coaching and sports training.
