PATIALA, September 20 — The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced the closure of one side of the bridge over the Samana-Bhakra main canal on NH-7 (Old NH-64) near the 68-km mark after its expansion joints were found damaged. Repair work is expected to take two to three weeks, officials said Saturday.

Traffic moving from Sangrur towards Chandigarh will be diverted via Old NH-7 up to the Passiana police station, and then through the Patiala-Samana road along the Bhakra main canal before rejoining the highway.

Abhishek Chauhan, Superintending Engineer (SE), NHAI, said road marshals, diversion signage, safety cones, and reflective tape have been arranged at the site. Police have also been requested to deploy additional personnel to regulate traffic and minimize inconvenience.

Commuters have been advised to adhere to the diversion plan and cooperate with authorities during the repair period.
