‘Not Going to Rajya Sabha’: Kejriwal Quashes Speculation

NEW DELHI, 23 June — Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday dismissed speculation about his possible entry into the Rajya Sabha, clarifying that he would not take the Upper House seat set to be vacated by party MP Sanjeev Arora, who won the Ludhiana West bypoll.

Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal responded to questions about who would replace Arora in the Rajya Sabha.

“Many times I have been sent to the Rajya Sabha. I want to tell you — I am not going to the Rajya Sabha,” he said. “The Political Affairs Committee of the party will decide whom to nominate.”

His statement comes amid claims by opposition leaders that Kejriwal could be eyeing a Rajya Sabha seat following recent legal and political setbacks, including his arrest earlier this year in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

Arora, currently serving as a Rajya Sabha MP, is required to resign his seat following his victory in the Punjab Assembly bypoll, where he defeated Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu by a margin of over 10,000 votes.

Kejriwal’s denial seeks to put to rest speculation around his parliamentary ambitions, at least for now, even as AAP eyes a broader national footprint ahead of the 2027 general elections.
