Chandigarh, March 9: Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian informed the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Monday that the state has initiated action against two real estate firms for allegedly violating building regulations at group housing sites. The announcement followed an inquiry by MLA Kulwant Singh regarding the misuse of road berms and the improper placement of convenience shops at auctioned properties.
The Minister stated that an investigation into 10 group housing sites auctioned over the past decade identified two specific violators. According to official records, JMT Housing Private Limited in Sector 82 and SA Global Private Limited in Sector 77 were found to have illegally occupied roadside areas.
MLA Kulwant Singh questioned the government on how many promoters had positioned commercial shops toward main roads rather than maintaining them within mandated boundary walls. He further inquired about the specific measures taken against those who had encroached on public land.
“Notices have been issued to the builders concerned,” Mundian affirmed during the session. The Minister maintained that the government would proceed with further action in accordance with established rules to address the illegal occupancy of the road berms.
The issue mentions ongoing concerns regarding urban planning and the adherence of private developers to the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) guidelines. Officials asserted that the integrity of public infrastructure, including road berms, must be preserved across all auctioned sites.
