O.P. Jindal Global University Clinches Top Spot at H.S. Mattewal Moot Court

Legal experts from high courts adjudge national competition at Rayat Bahra University

Mohali, March 30: The University School of Law at Rayat Bahra University concluded the H.S. Mattewal Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2026 on Sunday, with O.P. Jindal Global University emerging as the national champions.

The two-day event brought together 20 elite teams from across India to test their advocacy and research skills in a simulated courtroom environment.

The winning team from O.P. Jindal Global University was awarded a cash prize of Rs 21,000, while the Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, secured the runner-up position along with a prize of Rs 11,000.

The competition progressed through intensive preliminary and knockout rounds, focusing on the analytical and articulative abilities of the aspiring lawyers.

Justice Alok Jain attended the valedictory session as the Chief Guest. During the proceedings, Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra maintained that such platforms are indispensable for developing the confidence and competence required in the legal profession.

The final round featured a distinguished bench of judges, including Justice Rajiv Sharma, former acting chief justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, and Justice H.S. Sidhu, former judge, alongside Dr. Trisha Sharma, Dr. Deepak Jindal, and Joginder Singh Mann.

Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar stated that these exercises serve a critical function in connecting classroom theory with the realities of legal practice. Advocate Pavit Singh Mattewal, who also presided over the session, affirmed the importance of maintaining high standards of integrity and professionalism within the field.

The organizers noted that the feedback provided by the eminent panel significantly enhanced the educational value for all participating law institutions.
