Chandigarh, August 26: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has approved a major salary enhancement exceeding 120 percent for teachers serving in Adarsh Schools across the state. Under the new pay structure, monthly compensation for approximately 1,100 educators will rise from around 10,000 rupees to over 22,000 rupees, aimed at securing fair compensation and dignity for the teaching community.
Chairing a meeting with a delegation of Adarsh School teachers in Chandigarh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that previous administrations had neglected educators despite their pivotal contribution to shaping the state’s future. He affirmed that teachers serve as the backbone of the education system, maintaining that for nearly two decades, these educators served with dedication despite receiving a meager salary. He declared that the current administration decided to correct this long-standing injustice by increasing their remuneration significantly.
Beyond the salary adjustment, the state government announced that these educators will be extended facilities modeled on the Kendriya Vidyalaya pattern to improve overall service conditions. Over 15,000 students are presently enrolled in these CBSE-affiliated Adarsh Schools across Punjab.
Addressing the broader impact on public education, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann maintained that when teachers feel secure and respected, students receive a better education. He asserted that the government’s priority remains safeguarding the interests of educators so that the future of every child studying in these institutions remains secure. He declared that all legitimate demands of the Adarsh School teachers were accepted after years of neglect under earlier tenures, adding that the state will continue ensuring they can discharge their duties in a smooth manner.
Senior state officials present at the meeting included Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Ravi Bhagat, and Secretary School Education Sonali Giri.
