Pune, July 7: More than 200 people were safely evacuated after a fire broke out outside a commercial building in Pune’s Ramwadi area early Monday morning, officials from the Pune Fire Brigade confirmed. The incident occurred along Pune-Nagar Road and, despite initial chaos, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The fire, which is believed to have originated in a cluster of parked motorcycles, was brought under control within 15–20 minutes. Firefighters suspect a technical malfunction or fuel leakage may have triggered the blaze, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
The affected building is a ground-plus-four-floor structure. At the time of the incident, a group from the Christian community had been using the first floor for overnight prayers and morning rituals.
“They noticed smoke and immediately alerted us,” said Vijay Bhilare, assistant divisional fire officer. “Our teams responded swiftly and safely evacuated all occupants.”
Thanks to the rapid response from emergency crews, the fire did not spread inside the building. The blaze was contained to the parking area, averting a potential disaster.
The fire department has urged citizens to service their vehicles regularly, ensure adequate ventilation in parking zones, and keep emergency contact numbers easily accessible. Authorities are continuing their probe into the incident.
