Chandigarh, April 25: The Punjab government has transferred Rs 15,871.51 crore directly into the bank accounts of 4,90,260 farmers during the current wheat procurement season. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak stated on Saturday that the administration remains committed to its promise of a hassle-free experience for the agricultural community.

As of the latest reports, 87.89 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat have arrived in mandis across the state, with 83.94 LMT already successfully procured. Kataruchak affirmed that Patiala currently leads the state in volume, with 7.83 LMT purchased, followed by Sangrur and Ferozepur.

“The government is ensuring prompt action with regard to procuring produce and crediting payments in no time,” the Minister maintained. He noted that lifting operations are also gaining significant momentum, ensuring that mandis remain clear for fresh arrivals.

To manage the expected total arrival of 122 LMT, the department has implemented comprehensive arrangements for sanitation and clean drinking water at all collection centers. Kataruchak asserted that the transition to digital payments and streamlined logistics has significantly reduced the waiting time for growers compared to previous years.
