NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH, May 10 — Within hours of agreeing to a ceasefire, Pakistan launched fresh cross-border attacks targeting multiple Indian states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, prompting swift retaliation from Indian forces, a senior government official confirmed on Saturday.
“Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement almost immediately after it was reached,” the official said.
“They used artillery guns, missiles, and armed drones to strike across several sectors. India is responding appropriately.”
In Jammu and Kashmir, loud explosions were reported in Srinagar and northern districts, with drones spotted over Nowshera, Sunderbani, and other forward sectors.
Jammu city also witnessed a series of blasts, and residents reported sightings of projectiles streaking across the night sky.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to X, writing, “Explosions have been heard across Srinagar,” confirming that the capital too had come under audible impact of the violation.
Ceasefire breaches were observed across multiple fronts in Jammu, Rajouri, and Poonch districts.
Though the Indian Army has yet to issue an official statement, local sources confirmed active engagement and heightened military movement in affected areas.
Further south, heightened alerts were issued in Punjab’s Ferozepur district.
Authorities imposed a blackout in Ferozepur and Muktsar as a precautionary measure amid fears of further escalation.
The ceasefire agreement, brokered after days of military escalation, had offered a temporary pause in hostilities.
However, the sudden breach by Pakistan, involving coordinated attacks using multiple weapon systems, has reignited tensions along the Line of Control and International Border.
Security forces remain on high alert, and the situation continues to evolve.
