Panchkula, Aug. 29 – Deputy Commissioner Monika Gupta on Friday issued an advisory for residents in view of continuous rainfall and the likelihood of heavy showers in the coming days, warning of possible landslides, flash floods and road damage across the district.

The administration cautioned that the Morni region, covering 14 revenue estates, is highly vulnerable to landslides and road blockages. People living in these areas have been asked to remain alert, while visitors have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

Citizens have been strictly warned to stay away from rivers, including the Tangri, Ghaggar and Kaushalya, as well as drains and other water bodies where sudden rise in water level could trigger flash floods or severe waterlogging.

Heavy rains have also damaged the bridge connecting the Barwala Industrial Area (HSIIDC) to villages such as Khatauli, forcing the administration to divert commuters to alternative routes. Gaushala (cattle shelter) committees have been directed to stock up on fodder, medicines and other essential supplies.

Low-lying areas of Panchkula are expected to face waterlogging, while hilly terrain remains sensitive to landslides. “Residents should remain vigilant and follow instructions issued from time to time by the district administration and police,” Gupta said, adding that the administration is closely monitoring the situation, restoring connectivity where needed, and taking steps to safeguard lives and property.

Citizens have been requested to cooperate fully and report any emergency to the District Flood Control Helpline at 0172-2562135.
