Panchkula, Jan 14: Panchkula police have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver in connection with the hit-and-run death of retired Lieutenant General Kulwant Singh Mann. The suspect, identified as Om Prakash, was apprehended six days after the incident that claimed the life of the 87-year-old veteran.

The arrest follows a week-long investigation into the January 9 accident near the Mansa Devi Complex (MDC). Investigators noted that Prakash, a resident of Saketri originally from Churu, Rajasthan, was allegedly behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck the former Army officer.

“The MDC area is regularly patrolled, and security will be strengthened with CCTV cameras at traffic lights and key locations,” Inspector Munish Kumar said.

The victim was a prominent figure in the military community and was struck while walking near the MDC area. He later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Following a complaint filed by the victim’s wife, the police registered a case under Sections 281, 125(b), and 106 of the BNS.
